Intensive Couples Therapy

For many couples, weekly is a great place to start because the steady cadence helps build momentum and makes meaningful changes gradually so the results are seen as steady, reliable, and lasting.

But for some couples the slow, gradual pace of traditional therapy can feel challenging because the conflict is too bad, the disconnection is so loud, and the tension is way too strong to wait for the next session.

This is where the intensive helps. We jump in and stay focused from start to finish which allows us to build up traction faster, and restore your confidence that therapy works!

Some of the goals that are important and could be included are:

  • Healing after an affair
  • Increasing relationship satisfaction
  • Improving conflict resolution skills and healthy communication
  • Deepening emotional and sexual intimacy
  • Building trust and respect
  • Healing feelings of resentment or past relational trauma

Healing doesn’t take time, it takes focus.

People say “time heals all wounds.” We disagree. You could spend all the time you have in the world, but if the process between you never changes, then the pain will never heal. You don’t need to waste more time, you need space to focus and experience healing.

In our couples intensive, we bring hard science and all of our clinical energy to your relationship, so both partners can feel seen, heard, and get success in the tough places.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • “You don’t listen. You just keep defending yourself.”
  • “All I hear is what I am doing wrong.
  • “I never get it right. It’s never enough for you.”
  • “It’s all on me. I have to take care of everything myself.”
  • “We’re not on the same page.”
  • “I don’t feel like I matter, or that you even care.”
  • "It’s like I’m darned if I do, and darned if I don’t.”
  • “You never initiate sex. It is always up to me.”
  • “It’s feels like we’re roommates.”

If this sounds like your relationship, you are not alone.

Intensive Couples Therapy is best for:

Couples Questioning Their Relationship Future
  • For couples uncertain about staying together, intensive therapy helps explore your emotions and decisions, providing clarity on whether to continue or part ways.
Couples interested in Affair Recovery/ Ready to Work Through Challenges and Rebuild
  • If you’re committed to working through relationship issues, intensive therapy offers strategies to improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen your connection.
Couples with Busy Lives Who Can't Commit to Regular Sessions
  • For couples with hectic schedules, intensive therapy offers flexibility and concentrated sessions, allowing you to make progress without the need for frequent weekly appointments.

Who is NOT a good candidate for Intensive Couples Therapy?

  • Couples who have already decided to leave their relationship and cannot commit to the therapy process
  • Intimate partner violence or abuse (for more information, click here).
  • Active, denied addiction(s)
  • Ongoing affair(s)
  • Conflicting Goals (One of you wants to make it work, the other does not)

What happens after the intensive?

While the intensive is a one-time service, we want our couples to experience a lifetime of love and relief! For this reason, ongoing treatment is recommended to all couples to support long-term results.

  • For out-of-town couples interested in seeking continued support we will help connect you with a therapist in your area. If you are local or would like to continue working with one of our providers, availability for ongoing care can be discussed at that time.
  • For couples who were working with a therapist prior to the intensive, we ask you sign a release of information so we may connect with your local therapist before and after the intensive to best support your hard work and ongoing traction.
